South Texas Facing Very Rare Winter Storm, USA

Weather Alert
South Texas, from Houston to San Antonio, facing rare winter storm.
It’s been years since South Texas from the Beaumont/Port Arthur area west to San Antonio has faced with a strong winter storm.  But if models verify, which they are at this time (1049a), it appears wintery weather will move through the area this morning and afternoon.
The Houston/Galveston and Victoria area is under a WINTER STORM WARNING.  The warning has been issued due to the threat of freezing rain and sleet accumulating up to a 0.25″ in the area.  Elevated surfaces will be most susceptible to the accumulation but an extended period of below freezing temperatures could cause the precipitation to accumulate on the ground as well as roads.
If you are traveling to this area be advised the winter storm will impact travel.  Bridges and overpasses in the area will freeze first followed by accumulating ice.
The Beaumont/Port Arthur and San Antonio areas are under a WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY.  The advisory has been issued due to the threat of accumulating freezing rain and sleet on grassy surfaces as well as elevated areas such as power lines and buildings.  In addition bridges and overpasses are expected to freeze followed by accumulating ice.  But in the advisory area the accumulation is expected to remain far below 0.25″
The main difference between a warning and an advisory is the accumulation amount of 0.25″  If the amount is forecast to be near or above 0.25″ a warning will be issued and if it is expected to remain below the critical 0.25″ amount an advisory will be issued.
Either way travel across southeast and south Texas will be impacted.
