Hailstone Storm Kills One Man & Injures Dozens Of People In Seoni District, India
A 60-year-old man, who sustained injury as a hailstones struck him on Sunday, succumbed in Seoni district a day after. Besides the dead, at least 16 other people of the district sustained injuries in the wake of hailstorm.
The incident took place at Marbodi village of the district. Bechan Lal Yadav, 60, who was grazing goats in his farm was hit by hailstorm at around 3 pm on Sunday. He returned home, but his condition deteriorated, sources said.
He was brought to district hospital on Monday morning, where he died during treatment. The district administration provided Rs10, 000 as relief to the kin of deceased and process for providing further relief was initiated. However, district collector Bharat Yadav said, “Getting hit by hailstorm cannot be said as the reason of his death as he had no injury marks going by post-mortem report.”
“But as he died due to natural calamity, a relief was provided through funds of Red Cross society,” Yadav said.
Sources said hailstones, which weighed around 100-150 grams, affected at least 60 villages of the district and damaged crops. In 50 of 60 villages, the damage to crop was above 50%.
