Landslide kills 7 in Indonesia
Papua Police Chief Insp. Gen. Tito Karnavian told a press conference that, the disaster occurred in the mining region of the Baya Biru Paniai on July 1 at 11 pm.
‘Two people had been evacuated to a nearby hospital by helicopter while six others remain unaccounted for,” Karvanian said.
According to the police chief, the site is difficult to reach as the landslide occurred in a densely wooded area.
“At the disaster site, there are no telecommunication signals. It can only be reached by helicopter,” Karvanian added.
Paniai Regency Police and disaster relief agencies have continued search-and-rescue operations.
