Volcano fissure eruption at Holuhraun; Intensity is the largest yet in Iceland

Ármann Höskuldsson, volcanologist at Geological Institute at University of Iceland, says that the fissure eruption at Holuhraun is still going on and the intensity of the eruption is the largest yet.
He says that the eruption has never been as big as it is at the moment. It can be related to the activity that started after the magnitude 5.5 earthquake yesterday in Bárðarbunga. Ármann says to mbl.is that the crack in the ground is smaller now, and that the eruption has gone off in some places in the crack. It is raining heavily in the region at the moment, and that causes a lot of steam at the eruption, so it is impossible to observe the eruption from webcams at the moment. The lave grows, and Ármann says that the area grew by over one kilometre during the night, and is now 8 kilometres from the eruption site.
