Four army men were killed in an avalanche in Ladakh while five more bodies were recovered from debris of the houses that collapsed in landslides caused due to incessant rains in Jammu and Kashmir. With the recovery of the bodies, toll in three separate incidents of landslides has risen to 22.

Four Army men were killed and two others injured after an avalanche hit their vehicle in frontier Ladakh region of Jammu and Kashmir, defence sources said.

They said avalanche hit an Army vehicle at remote Changla village in Leh district yesterday, trapping six army men travelling in it.

They said rescue teams immediately swung into action and recovered bodies of three army men while efforts are on to recover body of the 4th army men.

Meanwhile, search and rescue workers retrieved body of eight-year-old boy Faisal Ahmad Hajam from the debris of a house at village Laden in Chadoora tehsil this afternoon.

With the recovery of the body, death toll in the incident of house collapse in the village has risen to 16.

Laden village witnessed massive landslide caused by heavy rains on intervening night of Sunday and Monday. Rescue parties recovered 15 bodies of two families from the debris of the house swallowed by earth. The boy had remained untraced.

Meanwhile, four more bodies were recovered from the debris of the collapsed house, which was yesterday hit by a massive landslide triggered by incessant rains in Dessa area of Doda district.

“Rescuers today recovered two more bodies from the debris of the house that collapsed under a massive landslide in Diwalkund in Dessa belt of Doda district yesterday. Two bodies were recovered yesterday,” a police official said.

Three people who are also feared dead, continue to be trapped under the debris of the house which has come under around 18 feet of mud and slush.

The official said continuous rainfall has been creating hurdles in the operation as the area is prone to more landslides. “It is a remote area which lacks road accessibility thus making the movement of heavy machinery impossible”.

Two persons were killed after tree uprooted by a landslide fell on them in Limber area of Uri in North Kashmir’s Baramulla yesterday.

Meanwhile, in view of threat of landslides, authorities evacuated 62 families from Khahmove, Brandub, Woolutra, Shitloo and other villages of Rohama Tehsil in Baramulla district today..

The families were shifted to safer places.

Lawyers should never ask a Georgia grandma a question if they aren’t prepared for the answer

'Lawyers should never ask a Georgia grandma a question if they aren't prepared for the answer. In a trial, a Southern small-town prosecuting attorney called his first witness, a grandmotherly, elderly woman to the stand. He approached her and asked, 'Mrs. Jones, do you know me?' She responded, 'Why, yes, I do know you, Mr. Williams. I've known you since you were a boy, and frankly, you've been a big disappointment to me. You lie, you cheat on your wife, and you manipulate people and talk about them behind their backs. You think you're a big shot when you haven't the brains to realize you'll never amount to anything more than a two-bit paper pusher. Yes, I know you.' The lawyer was stunned. Not knowing what else to do, he pointed across the room and asked, 'Mrs. Jones, do you know the defense attorney?' She again replied, 'Why yes, I do. I've known Mr. Bradley since he was a youngster, too. He's lazy, bigoted, and he has a drinking problem. He can't build a normal relationship with anyone, and his law practice is one of the worst in the entire state. Not to mention he cheated on his wife with three different women. One of them was your wife. Yes, I know him.' The defense attorney nearly died. The judge asked both counselors to approach the bench and, in a very quiet voice, said, 'If either of you idiots asks her if she knows me, I'll send you both to the electric chair.'
