Hailstorm causes damage to orchards in Lolab

Hailstorm accompanied by fast winds in different parts of Lolab, here, on Sunday caused massive damage to fruit bearing trees and vegetable crop.
 
The farmers from several areas in Lolab told Greater Kashmir that the hailstorm began this afternoon and continued for an hour. “It badly hit orchards in Sogam, Lalpora, Potushai, Khodi, Gagal, Diver, Maidanpora, cheepora, Kuligam, Khurhama, Warnow and Doban areas of Lolab causing damage to the mustard crop, fruit buds of apple trees, walnut, pear and cherry, and vegetables.”
 
“Such was the intensity of the hailstorm and fast winds accompanying it that fruit buds and leaves of trees were knocked down” the farmers said.
 
Meanwhile, the farmers appealed Agriculture and Horticulture departments to depute official teams to the affected areas to assess the loss and suggest sprays of suitable pesticides and fungicides.

Severe heatwave hits parts of Sindh, Punjab, Balochistan in Pakistan

Most parts of the country on Sunday remained in the grip of scorching heat as temperature rose to over forty with Nawab Shah becoming hottest district of the country where mercury shot up to 47 degrees.
 
Roads wore deserted look as punishing heatwave hit Sukkur, Larkana, Hyderabad, Mirpur Khas , Multan, Bahawalpur, Sargodha, Faisalabad, Rahim Yar Khan, Bahawalnagar and other parts of Balochistan, Punjab and Sindh.
 
People in Rahim Yar Khan, where mercury was recorded at 43 degree Celsius, rushed to canals to beat the heat.
 
According to Met Office, Bahawalnagar, Turbat, Bawahalpur, DG Khan, Multan, Khanpur, and Sukkur sizzled at 42 degrees Celsius.
 
On the other hand, upper parts of the country including Kashmir, Hazara Division and Gilgit Baltistan have been receiving intermittent rain, where the Met Office forecasts more showers for the next four days.

Teenage Tourist Gored By Bison At Yellowstone, USA

A 16-year-old girl from Taiwan has been airlifted to hospital after being gored by a bison in Yellowstone National Park.
 
The teenager was posing for a picture next to the animal when its horn impaled her.
 
The National Park Service says the unidentified girl’s injuries were serious but not life-threatening.

She is an exchange student who was with her host family visiting the park, which straddles the Wyoming-Idaho-Montana border.
 
The incident occurred in the Old Faithful area at lunchtime on Friday.
 
The Park Service says the girl was as close as 3ft (91cm) to the bison when she turned her back to it.
 
Visitors are advised by the Park Service to keep a distance of at least 75ft from the bison.
 
Despite their bulk, the animals can run faster than 30mph (48kph).
