Severe storm causes flooding and dust storm on the way to United Arab Emirates
Heavy showers lashed the northern parts of Ras Al Khaimah early on Sunday. The rain that continued for nearly fifteen minutes fell on the areas of Sha’am, Wadi Sha’am and Al Jir.
The rain resulted in flooding the areas, according to its residents.
Thunder, lightning and clouds preceded the rainfall that began at about 4:30 am on Sunday, according to Saeed Al Dhahouri, a resident of Wadi Sha’am. The people in those areas were delighted at the sight of the rain which is very rare during summer, said Saeed.
Dust storm
The National Centre of Meteorology and Seismology (NCMS) has warned of low horizontal visibility due to dust and sand storm.
It has advised motorists to be cautious and drive slowly due to poor visibility caused by the sandstorm.
The NCMS in a statement today affirmed that satellite images indicate the presence of a tropical depression at a distance of 1,230 km southeast of Masirah Island, Sultanate of Oman.
It is expected to increase during the next 24 hours while moving towards north and north-west.
