Plane crash kills one in St. Pete-Clearwater, USA
One person is dead after a small plane crashed at St. Pete-Clearwater Airport late this morning.
Video from SkyFOX showed the small twin-engine plane crashed near one of the runways.
Airport officials say the pilot was performing touch-and-gos — which are practice take-offs and landings — when the crash occurred.
The pilot — who has not yet been publicly identified — did not declare an emergency before the crash.

Major Cyclone carrying torrential rain to strike Malta
Weather forecasts have been predicting rain for Malta for the past days, but showers have been few and far between.
Predictions continue to show that Malta will be hit by bad weather in the next few days, with meteoweb.eu saying that a cyclone will hit the Maltese Islands on the night between Thursday and Friday.
The cyclone is already hitting the Balearics with torrential rain and thunderstorms. It is moving west towards Sardinia and is expected to then move towards the south of Italy, Sicily and later Malta, according to meteoweb.eu
The phenomenon is to hit the lower parts of Italy on Thursday morning and Malta on the following night.
According to meteoweb.eu, tonight might also bring rain on the Maltese islands.
The Malta International Airport Meteorological Office as well as maltaweather.com are also both reporting rainfall on both Thursday and Friday.

Major snowstorm causes widespread power outages in Alaska
Thousands of Alaska residents are without power after a major snowstorm socked the Fairbanks area and forced a grocery to store frozen food outside.
The National Weather Service says 11.2 inches of snow fell in Fairbanks through early Wednesday.
The Fairbanks Daily News-Miner reports that 15,000 Golden Valley Electric Association customers were without power Wednesday because of trees falling into power lines. Some residents may be without power for days.
The borough and Red Cross are setting up areas for people who want a place to get warm. Schools are closed, and sporting events have been canceled.
Freezers failed at a Fred Meyer grocery store, and employees loaded frozen food into carts and parked them outside. The temperature was 29 degrees at noon Wednesday.

Severe Storms Cause at Least 10,000 Lightning Strikes in Queensland, Australia
Parts of south-east Queensland were lashed by hail and more than 10,000 lightning strikes as a severe thunderstorm hit the region yesterday, bringing power outages to more than 1,000 homes and businesses.
More severe storm cells had been forecast for the south east, however the Bureau of Meteorology (BoM) cancelled its warning about 4:15pm.
“The immediate threat of severe thunderstorms has passed, however thunderstorms are still occurring in the area with small hail possible,” it said in a statement.
More than 4,500 homes had lost power when the severe storms hit the capital about 2:30pm and moved towards the coast.
By the evening, 1,200 remained without power on the Sunshine Coast, Moreton Bay and the Gold Coast.
Hail fell at Esk, north-west of Brisbane, and at Kurwongbah, Morayfield and a number of Brisbane suburbs, however there are no reports of damage.
Energex spokeswoman Karen West said crews had to wait until the lightning had passed to reconnect homes.
“Since 2:00pm today, [to 3:30pm] there had been 10,000 lightning strikes,” she said on Tuesday.
Flights at Brisbane Airport were delayed and there were reports of road accidents at Chermside, Greenslopes and Auchenflower.
Motorists on the M1 and Gympie Road also suffered delays.
The thunderstorm came just days after a system over Logan and Brisbane brought .
BoM senior forecaster Michael Paech said it had been a busy afternoon in the south east.
“Certainly those storms came through with a bit of vengeance,” he said.

Heavy Rain Causes Flooding in Parts of Maryland, Virginia, USA
Heavy rainfall across the Washington region caused flooding in parts of Maryland and Virginia.
A flood warning was issued for parts of Culpeper, Fauquier, Loudoun, Montgomery and Prince George’s counties, and a flash flood warning was issued for parts of Frederick, Loudoun and Washington counties. The warnings in Culpeper, Loudoun, Montgomery and Prince George’s counties expire at 2 a.m. Wednesday.
Frederick, Maryland got an estimated 4.4 inches of rain Tuesday night. Central Loudoun County got 3.7 inches, with one report of 6 inches. Parts of Southern Maryland got 3 inches.
Officials in Loudoun County rescued people stuck in cars on flooded roads and responded to significant flooding in a home. Goose Creek near Leesburg flooded and could reach backyards near Highway 15, according to the National Weather Service. No injuries were reported.
Residents and travelers were advised to anticipate possible flooding of highways, underpasses and small streams. Move to higher ground to escape flood waters, and do not drive through high water.
You’ll need to keep your umbrella handy for the rest of the week. Scattered showers are expected through the weekend, with temperatures expected to hit a high of 80 degrees Wednesday.

Heat wave in Tshwane, flooding in the Cape, South Africa
Tshwane Emergency Services (TES) and the City of Tshwane have warned the metro’s residents of soaring temperatures due to a passing heat wave.
TES Spokesperson Johan Pieterse warned residents that the excessive hot weather could result in heat exhaustion, which could be life-threatening, reports News24.
TES has since released a statement warning vulnerable groups of people who may be severely affected by the heat to take the necessary precautions. Children, people with respiratory diseases, the elderly, people with disabilities and people suffering from epilepsy should all be carefully monitored during the hot conditions, TES warned.
Vanetia Phakula for the South African weather services explained heat wave conditions to Traveller24 saying, “When maximum temperatures surpass the average maximum temperatures for three consecutive days, we have a heat wave”.
Despite it being early spring, Phakula said the weather conditions were “not unusual” though.
While Tshwane battles the heat, the Western Cape and southern coast are experiencing opposite conditions.
SA Weather services warned of heavy rain fall, which may lead to flooding along the Eden District in the Garden Route, with the possibility of it spreading to Storms River on Wednesday afternoon.
In addition to the cold, wet conditions in the Cape, monstrous waves have also caused havoc due to the recent supermoon in SA.

Massive Hailstorms Hit Metro Denver, USA
You might associate snow with late September in Denver instead of hail.
But for the second year in a row severe storms with large hail have hit metro Denver on September 29.
So far there have been no reports of significant damage with this year’s hail but some areas did see hailstones the size of quarters.
The thunderstorms developed over the foothills of Boulder County and Jefferson County after 3 p.m. and moved south along the western suburbs of Denver.
Areas north of Golden, around Lakewood and into northern Douglas County saw the heaviest rain and hail.
