Freezing Temps Damages Banana Cultivation In The Vale do Ribeira, Brazil

Freeze Warning Alert

The low temperatures recorded in June directly influenced the quality of some products in São Paulo, causing damage and consequent price increases. In the region of Vale do Ribeira, for example, frosts have damaged banana cultivation.

Although temperatures in June have stayed within the historical average for the month between 12° C and 23° C in Sorocaba, the performance of three polar masses of strong intensity caused temperatures stayed below 10° C for several days in a row. Frost also generally occurred in several regions of the State. “Since the end of April, these masses of polar air into South America and caused the Brazil experienced intense cold,” says Alexandre Nascimento, meteorologist of Climatempo.

The impact was great and the injury must be felt by the producers until next year. According to Roberto Kobori, agricultural engineer and technical advisor of the Association of Bananicultores of the Ribeira Valley – ABAVAR, the loss was approximately 70% in the South and Southeast, which caused an increase of 30% to 40% on the cost of production.

The expert also that in addition to stopping the development of culture, the temperatures below 13° C cause damage to the bark. “As the remuneration is for the appearance of the fruit, the loss is great. Although stay nutritionally better, almost everyone cares about the visual and end up being harmed, “he explains.

For the cultivation of fruit, the ideal climate has temperatures between 20° C and 30° C, in addition to above 75% humidity and good rainfall. With the cold and dry winter climate, cultural practices, like good soil remediation and cleanup of the plant are recommended.

Unfortunately, the situation should not improve anytime soon, since the dry climate is not favorable for cultivation. The Weatherman points out that rainfall should stay within the average, i.e. little rain until the end of the month.

A Very Rare Snow Event In Parts Of Germany

Camping im Schnee!
On camping in the snow thinking the middle of July? Threatened as by wetter.net already on Monday this wish can be met today in the Alpine countries Switzerland and Austria!

The snow line is clearly waning in these regions overnight. At times morning dance the snowflakes today up to 1500 m.

For mid-July, so a deep snow line is extremely rare. Clear: It can be in June or in late August on these heights down snow, but in July, this is a rather rare sight really. This summer holds not only for the autumn, but even for the winter.

Say we were not warned. Already on Monday we had warned against last-minute travel this week in the Alpine countries.

Snow fell not only in the Switzerland. In Austria, it also snows. The popular Großglockner High Alpine road is today tomorrow in places schneedeckt. And it’s still snowing. Most people have imagined certainly different this summer vacation. The summer 2016 does what he wants.

A few days ago still peak between 30 and 35 degrees have been measured in Austria and now it snows up to 1500 m down the middle of July.

But also in Germany, the weather is not really summery. Here, the low of Poland to create Ulrike today makes the South and East. It brings to many clouds and on the other hand, lots of rain. However, most of the rain falls on Polish territory. Here, rain is expected within 24 hours about 100 liters per square meter. In the Eastern Saxony and Eastern Brandenburg rain will also fall, but only amounts of between 30 and 50 litres per square metre. This can be but also even more stuck in traffic by the Ore mountains.

The low Ulrike has a similar track as the severe depression in August 2002 which caused the flooding of the Elbe. However, the rain – at least on the German side – are significantly lower than it did!

In Bavaria, the rain persists still continued. Corresponding weather and severe weather warnings are in the Eastern and southern parts of the country.

However, the weather is today almost been really relaxed in the North and West. Sometimes the sun shines there. Today, only 16 to 21 degrees are reached. When continuous rain, it may remain even cooler.

It was particularly wet so far and in the Alps. There locally over 150 liters per square meter of rainfall in the past 72 hours. But also Munich brought it rain within 48 hours, after all, to just over 60 litres per square meter!

Tomorrow’s not better looks from the temperatures. You continue to remain between 15 and 21 degrees. After all, lighten the clouds in the East again and there is only some showers.
