Building Collapse Kills 7 In Darjeeling, India
At least seven persons were killed and eight others injured when a building collapsed in the Zaikir Hussain Colony area of Darjeeling on Friday.
The district officials ruled out landslide as cause of the building collapse. They said that it was perhaps due to structural flaws in the four storied building.
“We have called in the Army for the rescue operations.” District Magistrate of Darjeeling Anurag Srivastava told The Hindu . The incident took place at around 10-30 pm on Friday and currently rescue works are going on. Earlier this week heavy rain triggered landslides in the Fincheytaar under Rimbick police station of the district killing three persons including an eight year old child. Another family whose house was destroyed in the landslide has been lodged at a nearby relief centre. The district administration was able to clear the stretches of the National Highway 10 that was blocked by the landslide soon after the incident.
