Massive Explosion At Chemical Plant In Cantonment, Florida, USA

A loud explosion has taken place at the Ascend Performance Materials plant on Old Chemstrand Road in Cantonment, Florida officials say. Shaking from the blast was felt across the surrounding area.

 

The incident happened just after 12 p.m. CT on Sunday when residents reported hearing a loud explosion coming from the Ascend plant, which is located at 3000 Old Chemstrand Road. Only few details are available.

 

Residents in the area said the blast shook their homes, but it was not immediately known what was the cause of the explosion at the plant. It is also unknown whether anyone at the plant has been injured. No evacuations have been ordered as of 12:50 p.m.

 

Ascend Performance Materials manufactures and supplies chemicals, fibers and plastics products, according to its website. The company has 6 plants in the United States, in addition to a plant in Belgium and China.
