Thousands of dead fish found in a reservoir in El Penon, Colombia

CAR Cundinamarca launched an urgent warning about the large numbers of dead fish woke up last Wednesday in an artificial reservoir in the exclusive gated community of “The Rock” in rural Girardot.

 

According to the entity, the thousands of dead fish appeared suddenly in the artificial lake of El Penon due to a combination of factors including increased temperatures would be counted, lack of oxygen and a decrease in the water level in the reservoir .

 

The CAR stressed that the reservoir is part of a system of artificial lakes that are in the lower basin of the Bogota River, but does not affect the situation of fisheries in the Magdalena river itself serves as a source of shelter and nesting of several of these species.

 

It should be noted that, according to director of CAR Néstor Franco, do not try to native fish species but introduced into the reservoir for cultivation and fishing.

 

Franco asked the administration of the Rock to explain the situation that caused the death of fish in the condo, and asked not piscicultivos with water supplies Bogota River are made due to high levels of pollution in its waters.
