Massive die off of fish in a lake in Afyonkarahisar Province, Turkey

Veysel Eroğlu, Minister of Forestry and Water Affairs, told Anatolia Agency on 18 February about Eber Lake in his native Afyonkarahisar that he had spent his life dreaming of preparing an action plan to clean up the polluted lake for years, saying: “Now when you go to Eber Lake We have saved Eber Lake from waste water, waste water, erosion.Eber Lake now has life, birds, endemic species, there was no fish in the past, now fish can be kept, ” he said.

However, on the day that Minister Eroğlu made this statement, it appeared that the surface of Eber Lake was filled with dead fish. On February 20, officials in the lagoon discovered that fish deaths occurred a few days ago.

Eber Lake, surrounded by Bolvadin, Tea and Sultandağı districts of Afyonkarahisar, was once one of the most important wetlands of Turkey. However, faced with the threat of extinction due to pollution originating from human press, industry, agriculture and livestock, Eber lost the tinge of color.
DAY OF THE MINISTER ‘CLEAN’ EVERY DARK FILLED WITH DEAD FISH
Eber is also famous for its cultivation of straw mat produced by underwater reeds, and in recent years it has been on the agenda with mass fish deaths. However, the death of the last collective fish on Lake Eber has reached an appalling size. The rising temperatures in the summer due to the rising fish deaths in the winter season is causing concern in the region.
