Police officer among three stabbed in #Manchester city centre, #UK
Three people, including a police officer, have been stabbed at Manchester Victoria station – amid reports of a man wielding a knife.
The station, in the city centre, has been closed while a man has been arrested.
Officers from British Transport Police (BTP) were called shortly before 9pm on New Year’s Eve.
Two members of the public, a man and a woman, were taken to hospital with knife injuries.
A BTP officer also received treatment after being stabbed in the shoulder.
A BTP spokesperson said: “Officers are attending Manchester Victoria station following reports of a man wielding a knife.
“We received the call at 8.52pm on Monday, 31 December.
“A man has been detained and two members of the public, a man and a woman have been taken to hospital with knife injuries.
“A BTP officer is also receiving treatment for a stab wound to the shoulder.
“British Transport Police remain at the scene along with colleagues from Greater Manchester Police and the North West Ambulance Service.”

Around 120 #firefighters tackle #warehouse blaze in #Croydon, Greater #London, UK
Around 120 firefighters and 20 fire engines are tackling a blaze at a self-storage warehouse in Croydon, the London Fire Brigade has said.
Crews were called shortly before 7.50pm and remain at the scene in Purley Way, but the cause of the fire is not known at this stage.
No injuries have been reported.

Almost 90 TONS of fish die in a lagoon in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil

Large die off of crows ’causes panic among locals’ in Nandankanan, India
Panic has gripped the locals of the Nandankanan locality on the city outskirt following the death of a large number of birds in the vicinity.
While locals suspect bird flu, the authorities are yet to ascertain the cause of the deaths reported over the weekend.
The locals, who have demanded a probe into the deaths, said the crow carcasses were found in the Nandankanan locality, Daruthenga, Nandankanan bus stand and in Barachhak.
Authorities at Nandankanan Zoological Park said they were taking emergency measures to protect the birds. The park has a rich depository of local and migratory birds, who make the zoo their home in the winters.

Up to 20 dead stingrays found on a beach in Dubai, United Arab Emirates
One of the stingrays found on Monday morning at Sunset Beach in Dubai. The animals were believed to have been caught up in illegal fishing nets.
Up to 20 stingrays have been found dead on a beach in Dubai.
Marine experts called to the scene at Sunset Beach on Monday said the fish were most likely dumped by fishermen who were after a different species.
Beachgoers discovered the adult and baby rays, some of which were still alive, while on their early morning walks.
Many of the fish had marks on their necks suggesting they may have been caught in nets prior to being dumped.
Natalie Banks, managing director of Dubai-based marine conservation organisation Azraq, said she spoke to people near the beach beside the Burj Al Arab.
“They told me that this has been going on for years and the authorities need to take action,” said Ms Banks.
