Thousands of fish die ‘due to drought’ in the Serpis River in Spain

The Center Excursionista La Madrilla de Potries denounced last Friday, November 9, the appearance last Thursday of thousands of fish killed in the Serpis River between Beniflà and Beniarjó for, as they claim, the sudden drought of that stretch, some ponds in which barbels, madrillas, eels and other species perished.

We are facing vulnerable species that are one step away from being considered in danger of extinction as a result of the decline of their populations in recent years. However, this section, according to municipal sources, has already recovered part of the water due to humidity on Saturday.

After detecting this situation, three members of the La Madrilla Excursionist Center came to the rescue of the native aquatic fauna, saving a few hundred eels, the animal that best resists these situations, releasing them upstream, where a thin thread of water still runs.
