All-time record #cold July temp in parts of #Germany
An extremely cold night is behind us. In Rotenburg even set a new negative record. Do we have to expect ground frost and cold in the coming nights?
Only a few days ago we could hardly sleep because of the extreme heat and the tropical nights. And now it is unusually cold for July. Does the weather play crazy?
Who thinks that July is guaranteed free of frost in Germany, is wrong. Proof of this is the night from Wednesday (03.07.) To Thursday (04.07.). Thus, in Deutschneudorf at a height of 5 centimeters, a low of -2 degrees was measured (ground frost).
How rare ground frost occurs in July, a glance at the weather statistics shows: For only seven times was registered in Germany in July months ground freezing – excluding mountain stations.
Last night in Rotenburg on the Wümme , at 2.9 degrees, there was even an absolute station record for July. The reason for the Bibber night in the middle of July is cold polar air, which flows far to the south and progresses to the middle of Germany. Since the night was very clear, especially in the middle of Germany, the air near the ground could cool down even more.
This was especially noticeable from Lower Saxony and North Rhine-Westphalia to Saxony.
In Quickborn, for example, the night on Thursday (04.07.2019) was the coldest in 20 years.
