15,000 #birds killed due to #BirdFlu in #Mexico
The World Organization for Animal Health, OIE, reported on June 6, 2019, that four new outbreaks of highly pathogenic avian influenza virus of H7N3 serotype have been detected in commercial and backyard birds in the localities of General Heliodoro Castillo, Guerrero ; Cadereyta de Montes, Querétaro ; Tizayuca, Hidalgo ; San Juan del Río, Querétaro in Mexico.

80+ dead turtles found since January in Veracruz, Mexico
From January to date there are more than 80 turtles found dead in different parts of the Veracruz coasts, said Raúl de Jesús González, head of the Marine Turtle program of the Veracruz Aquarium.
He recalled that the most recent case was last Thursday at Gaviotas beach in the municipality of Boca de Rio, where a Quelonian of the olive species was found dead at dawn.

2 more dead gray #whales have been found in #Alaska, bringing the year’s toll to 75 along west coast of #USA
Two more gray whales were found dead this week in Alaska amid the mysterious surge of deaths within the species this year along the US West Coast, CNN affiliate KTUU reports.
That makes seven in Alaska and at least 75 total, in what the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration calls an “unusual mortality event,” the station reports.
Two more were discovered this week off Washington state.
Last month, ocean scientists said they were worried about the death rate, the highest in almost two decades. Some of the mammals were underweight, which may mean they could not find enough food in the water, a possible result of climate change, NOAA spokesman Michael Milstein said.
In all of last year, 45 gray whales were found onshore, NOAA said.
Gray whales do most of their eating during summers in the Arctic and migrate to spend half the year in Mexico.
They can reach 90,000 pounds. The species was endangered until 1994.

Thousands of dead #fish found in a #lake at #LelyResort in #Florida, #USA
A massive fish kill was discovered by locals at Eagle Lakes Community Park in Lely Resort Saturday.
Witnesses told us they were walking in the park near the lake and noticed a large silver mass lining the bank. As they got closer, they were surprised to see thousands of dead fish floating in the water.
“At first I thought it was like foam at the edge of the water or something,” said Marcel Doese, a visitor. “But no this is 1,000, 1 million little fish and bigger fish.”
Hank Molle bikes at the park almost every day.
“Just yesterday, probably around 10 the morning, this place was pristine,” Molle said.
This morning, visitors like Droese said they could smell the dead marine life from a quarter mile away.
“I noticed a stench all the way on the other side of the park, and it was pretty horrifying,” Droese said. “It was a little disturbing. I like animals. And to just see 1 million animals lined up like this heartbreaking it sucks.”
Eagle Lakes is known for its birds, and visitors are worried for their safety without knowing what is wrong with the fish at the lake. They also worry for public safety in general at the park—people enjoying trails and a nearby pool.
“There’s kids that play here and families that come here,” Droese said. “No one wants to see that.”
We reached out to Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, along with Collier County about the cause of the fish kill. We will update as soon as we hear back.
“I’m not a marine biologist,” Molle said. “I just know that somebody in the know needs to check this out and find out why it’s happening.”

Mass die off of #fish washes ashore in #SaintPetersburg, #Russia
On Saturday morning, in the resort area of St. Petersburg, dead fish flooded the coastal zone of the Gulf of Finland. This is written on social networks by eyewitnesses.
According to the witnesses of the incident, a lot of dead fish brought to the shore of the beach “Gentle”. Judging by the pictures and videos, the entire coast is strewn with carcasses.
The reason for this is still unknown. Someone says that all because of the heat, someone – that ruffers are thrown overboard by field workers when cleaning the nets.
Earlier, Rospotrebnadzor warned residents of St. Petersburg that not a single beach in the city was suitable for swimming – it is safe for you to just sunbathe.

TONS of dead #fish float in a lake in #Chennai, #India
It has been over a week since residents have been complaining of stench in the area around Thiruneermalai lake, as tonnes of dead fish have been rotting in the almost dried-up lake.
The residents alleged that the sewage from Madras Special Economic Zone (MEPZ) in Tambaram was being let into the dry lake, which in turn killed the fish, reported The Times of India.
Many residents said that their complaints have fallen on deaf ears. “Authorities are not taking any action to remove the dead fish and nobody seems to be concerned,” said a resident, quoted the media report.
“People have to cover their faces while crossing Chennai Bypass near Thiruneermalai. The stink is spreading throughout the area causing serious problem to locals,” he added.
