PEOPLE have been seen “people running and panicking” from Oxford Circus underground station in London.

Another person tweeted: “Just got evacuated from Oxford Circus tube.

“Don’t know what’s going on but obviously would recommend avoiding.”

Mary Whittaker described the experience as “terrifying” and said there had been a “burning” smell.

She tweeted:” Terrifying experience in #oxfordcircus tube station just now – smell of burning, all up escalators blocked off and people running in all directions trying to get out.

“Jumped on a train in the end. No idea what happened?!”

Police have responded to the scene, with one witness saying: “Pulled into #oxfordcircus tube stop and police everywhere at my door; people yelling and shouting and holding someone. Rather frightening given today’s events.

The incident comes as London is still reeling from a suspected terror attack this afternoon.

Two members of the public have reportedly died from their injuries.

Police are treating the attack as terror-related.

The knifeman was wearing a “hoax explosive device”, Assistant Commissioner for Specialist Operations Neil Basu in a police statement in front of New Scotland Yard.
