5 Nomad Families Rescued, 265 Animals Perish In Snow Storm In Kulgam, Kashmir #SnowStorm #Kulgam #Kashmir
Police on Saturday rescued five nomad families comprising thirty members stuck in Pir Panchal hills in Kulgam district of south Kashmir. However, 265 animals including 250 sheep and 15 horses perished in a snowstorm in the area.
A officer told GNs that as soon as police received information that some Nomad families are stuck in Pir Panchal hills due to snowstorm, a police party along with SDRF led by SDPO Damhal Hanji Pora launched a rescue operation in the snow-covered mountainous region.
During the rescue the operation, five nomadic families consisting of thirty (30) members were rescued, he said.
“These families got stuck in the snowstorm at Bada Pir Panchal while migrating along with their livestock from Mahore District Reasi towards Nandimarg Kulgam by opting higher reaches of Pir Panchal range,” a police spokesman said.
Their livestock consisting of 15 horses and 250 Sheep died due to the snowstorm, the spokesman said. However, all the members of these families including women and children were rescued and later shifted to Zomasthal Bahak near Village Nandimarg, the spokesman said.
