15,000 dead fish found in a lake in Viechtach, Germany

15,000 fish died on Sunday in a pond of the Viechtachfishing club. That’s the entire stocking of the water, police say.

A clogged junction is therefore considered to be the cause. From this the water of the Hofbach was directed into the ponds of the association. According to initial findings, this may have been caused by nearby forestry work as part of the expansion of the Bundesstraße 85.

Investigations have been launched by the Viechtach Police Inspectorate to establish the cause. Water samples were taken and some of the degenerated fish were seized. The water management office and the Regen district office were also involved in the investigation.

According to preliminary estimates, the damage amounts to at least 15,000 euros.
