Plane crash kills Brazilian Presidential Candidate
A candidate in Brazil’s presidential election was killed Wednesday when a small private plane crashed in a residential area in Santos, in the state of Sao Paulo.
Eduardo Campos, 49, was the candidate of the Brazilian Socialist Party (PSB) in the October 5 election. Party leader Carlos Siqueira confirmed his death to TV channel Globo.
Several people were reportedly injured in the crash. Brazilian aviation authorities said the plane had been carrying seven people.
The causes of the accident in the port city of Santos, about 60 kilometres from Brazil’s industrial powerhouse Sao Paulo, remained unknown.
Opinion polls predicted that Campos will come third in the election, in which Brazilian President Dilma Rousseff seeks a second term.
