Severe flooding strikes Italy

Severe Flood Warning

Heavy rains are continuing to wreak havoc across northern and central Italy causing widespread flooding and loss of life.

On Wednesday in Tuscany two women died after their car was swept away when a local river broke its banks . Their deaths bring the number of victims in recent days to four.

Beleaguered residents are angry:

“Look at Genoa!” said one man trying to rescue belongings from his flooded home.“They’ve have floods twice in five years. For us it’s twice in two.”

Many believe the flooding could be prevented. One woman blamed local and regional governments:

“The state and local administrations ask money for taxes, but they don’t use it to protect us. I’m 70 years old and I’m not going to go on paying for nothing.”

Deadly Ebola Virus; Plane that carried Ebola infected nurse made five flights before disease’s disclosure in USA

Ebola Virus

The plane that carried a nurse infected with Ebola from Cleveland to Dallas flew potentially hundreds of people across the country before the woman’s condition was made public.

The plane with the tail number N220FR was cleaned Monday night after Amber Joy Vinson’s trip from Cleveland to Dallas on Frontier Airlines flight 1143.

The plane flew five trips Tuesday, traveling from Dallas, to Cleveland, to Fort Lauderdale to Atlanta. The plane did not make any trips Wednesday, according to flightaware. A flight to Atlanta was eventually cancelled.

The plane has since been cleaned two more times using “aggressive cleansers” and focusing on the hard surfaces and the lavatory, Tyri Squyres, vice president of marketing of Frontier said.

Here are the flight numbers and routes after Vinson’s Monday trip from Dallas to Cleveland on Frontier Airlines flight 1143.

Flight 2042 left Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport at 9:11 a.m. Eastern Standard Time and arrived at Cleveland Hopkins International Airport at 11:14 a.m. Eastern.

Flight 1104 left Cleveland Hopkins International Airport at 12:24 p.m. Eastern and arrived at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport at 3 p.m. Eastern.

Flight 1105 left Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport at 4:02 p.m. Eastern time and arrived at Cleveland Hopkins International Airport at 6:16 p.m. Eastern.

Flight 1101 left Cleveland Hopkins Airport at 7:24 p.m. and arrived at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport at 9:03 p.m. Eastern time.

Flight 1100 left Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport at 10:12 p.m. and arrived at Cleveland Hopkins Airport at 11:19 p.m. Eastern time.

It’s unlikely that anyone contracted Ebola from the Frontier Airlines plane, but it’s possible. While the flight crew reported that the infected woman, Amber Joy Vinson, showed no visible symptoms, she had a temperature of 99.5 Fahrenheit, an official from the CDC said.

Passengers would have to be in close contact with Vinson’s blood and other bodily fluids (saliva, urine, vomit, blood, sweat, semen, breast milk, etc.). People would have to touch those fluids and then touch their skin in a way that those fluids would pass through your skin (through a cut or wound).

Deadly Ebola Virus; Female passenger spotted in departure lounge at Washington Dulles airport in Hazmat suit, gloves and mask

Ebola fears in America reached a whole new level on Wednesday, when a passenger at Washington, DC’s Dulles Airport was seen wearing a partial-Hazmat suit while waiting for a flight.

The unidentified woman was seen sitting in an airport lounge, wearing a transparent blue plastic suit, on the same say a second nurse was diagnosed with the deadly disease in Dallas, Texas. The suit did not fully cover her arms, leaving her wrists exposed.

According to the Daily Caller which published the picture on Wednesday, the photographer who supplied their reporter the picture did not approach the woman to ask why she had gone to such extreme lengths.

America’s ‘patient zero’ Thomas Eric Duncan flew into Texas last month from Liberia, with a layover at Dulles, but health officials say he was not showing symptoms of the virus at that point and therefore unable to spread the disease.

However, Amber Vinson,  the second nurse to contract the disease after treating Duncan, flew on a commercial flight with a low-grade fever on Monday, the day before she admitted herself to the hospital with further symptoms of the virus.

The CDC confirmed today that they let her board the flight, since her temperature was below the threshold of 100.4F. But the health organization’s Director Thomas Frieden initially said she should not have been on a commercial flight, after having treated Duncan in the first ‘high-risk’ days of his stay at Texas Health Presbyterian hospital.

Miss Vinson, 29, was flown out of Dallas on a chartered jet Wednesday evening to Atlanta, Georgia, where she is being treated at Emory University Hospital.

The CDC has tried to calm fliers by saying Ebola is not spread through casual contact, and can only be contracted by an exchange of bodily fluids.
