Man dead, daughter missing after landslide in St Andrew, Jamaica

Landslide Danger Alert

A frantic search is underway for a teenage girl who is believed to be trapped under the rubble of her house which crumbled this morning in Shooters Hill, St Andrew in Jamaica amid heavy rainfall.

Her father, who residents only identified as ‘Romie’, was reportedly found dead at the scene about 7 am (October 23).

There has been heavy rainfall across the island over the past few days, which the Jamaica Meteorological Service said is due to a persistent trough of low pressure across the western Caribbean.

The met office said light to moderate, and at times heavy showers and thunderstorms occurred across sections of most parishes during the night, especially across eastern and south-central parishes.

A flash flood watch is in effect for all parishes in Jamaica
